Then I Knew I Was Good at Painting: Esther Mahlangu, A Retrospective (Iziko South African National Gallery, 2024) was the first career-spanning survey of the celebrated Ndebele artist, showcasing over 100 works—including her iconic BMW Art Car—that traced her journey from traditional wall painting to global contemporary art icon.
Design Concept / Inspiration: Design was informed by Esther Mahlangus 60 year Art career.
Unique Features: It was the first time the BMW Art Car she painted was brought home to South Africa and one of ISANGs bigger retrospectives.
Key Responsibilities: Suppliers, designers, architects, teams, timelines, quality control, budgets logistics.
Challenges Overcome: We were appointed in November and the exhibition opened in February, we managed incredibly tight deadlines.
